COSI For Credit

Can I Get Fries With That?

Being a part of COSI is a very involved, multi-disciplinary experience that can challenge and benefit every student who decides to become a part of the organization. COSI gives students many opportunities for growth, including:

  • Leadership Experience — COSI’s architecture allows students to step up and take the initiative in innovative and new project ideas.
  • Career Preparation — The projects and teams that COSI encompasses deal with emerging technologies that make students involved marketable to any new company looking for employees. Due to accomplishments by past and current COSI members, companies such as IBM, Microsoft, and Apple keep a close eye on what is being done here.
  • Teamwork — COSI is another avenue at Clarkson for students to work together towards a common goal. Such experience is invaluable in any situation.

Because of everything that is available just by being a COSI member, Clarkson has made it available for members to take COSI for credit — that is, gain college credit simply by participating in COSI.

Credible Opportunities

Students are given several options when taking COSI for Credit (C4C):

  • 0 credits — Although this may look strange, taking it for 0 credits puts COSI on your transcript, making your participation in COSI at the very least official. This is available to all members.
  • 1 credit — New members are allowed to take COSI for up to 1 credit. This is to allow them to get credit for their work without the risk of over-exerting themselves in their first year.
  • 2 credits — Second year members are allowed to take COSI for up to 2 credits.
  • 3 credits — Members in their third year or more are allowed to take COSI up to 3 credits, as much as any normal lecture course here at Clarkson.

COSI-for-credit is given as a pass/no pass course. Grades are determined by reports from the project lead and COSI leaders. More information on grading and requirements as of Fall 2006 is available here.
