Mail

The COSI DNS record includes an MX (mail exchange) record that allows us to process email destined for cosi.clarkson.edu addresses that have been configured on the system. To add or edit aliases, connect to statler and edit /etc/mail/aliases with a text editor. The format of the file should be fairly obvious. Once you’re done editing the file save it and then run newaliases to regenerate the hashtables used by the mail server.

DNS

COSI has an agreement with OIT for them to provide us with DNS service. All DNS changes should be sent to helpdesk@clarkson.edu.

The COSI Website

The COSI website consists of several pieces of software. The site itself is hosted on a Linux box running Apache 2, PHP 4, and MySQL. News on the site and static pages can be edited with WordPress, an open source blog tool. The calendar is parsed and displayed with PHP iCalendar. Bugs are tracked using Mantis. Picture galleries are handled by Gallery. The admin wiki is based on Wikka.

Unfortunately, these are disparate systems and each requires its own password.

Updating the Calendar

Create a new calendar in Evolution and add any events you’d like. To update the calendar on the web, open a terminal and go to .evolution/calendar/local/<calendar-id> and scp calendar.ics to statler, placing it in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/calendar/calendars/COSI.ics.
