The following steps are required to start up animal:

  1. Power on the rack-mounted RAID unit using the two black toggle switches on the rear of the unit. The switches are located to the right of the power supplies/cables (when looking at the back of the unit). The power supplies are located on the right side of the RAID unit (again, when looking at the back of it).
  2. Press the power button on the front of animal.

Shutdown

  1. Shut down animal by logging in as root and typing ’shutdown -h now’.
  2. Once animal has powered off, if the RAID unit needs to be powered down as well, use the two black toggle switches on the rear of the unit (see instructions above).

gonzo (Ultra60)

Services: Running project server and subversion server

Startup

  1. Power on both of the RAID units attached to the machine using the single black toggle switch on the rear bottom of the unit.
  2. Make sure waldorf is up and running (see below), as gonzo mounts one of its RAID units via NFS at startup.
  3. Once both RAID units are on, power on gonzo by pressing the gray power button on the front right of the machine. If the power button doesn’t appear to be working, verify that the single black toggle switch on the top rear of the machine is in the on position.

Shutdown

  1. Log in as root and type ’shutdown -h now’. If the system halts but does not power off, press the gray power button on the front right of the machine to power it off. If you want to make sure the machine doesn’t accidently power on, flip the single black toggle switch on the top rear of the machine to the off position.
  2. Power off both of the RAID units using the single black toggle switch on the rear bottom of each unit.
