All bandwidth issues concerning mirror were resolved several days ago, and over the past few days mirror has been syncing very nicely. Everything should be all up to date. If there is a project that you know of that you’d like included on mirror, please let us know!
We are currently attempting a new theme for the COSI website. Please direct constructive criticism/praise to the COSI mailing list. Please make suggestions (both keeps and changes, please), and us know whether you like the new theme or old one better. Already several changes have been made based on feedback, and a few things kept the way they are because they were liked.
If you find any features that are broken (besides the fact that the mirror team is still working on getting mirror back up) please let us know of that also. If the page does not appear properly, if you could describe the situation and possibly even send a screenshot it would be much appreciated. Please direct correspondence to the COSI mailing list.
In the summer of 2006, the Applied CS Labs at Clarkson University–COSI, ITL, and VR Lab–were renovated according to generous gifts by several sponsors.
In particular, we would like to give our most grateful thanks to:
The George I. Alden Trust
and
Rechler Family Foundation
(Bennett L. ‘70 and Bonnie Rechler)
for financing the renovation of the laboratory space.
IBM Corporation
for the donation of an x-Series Blade Center chassis,
ten blade servers, various components, RAID controllers,
and over 8 terabytes of hard drive space.
This Saturday, the 21st, will be the official opening of the Applied Computer Science Labs for the Clarkson Board of Trustees and COSI Alumni.
The schedule of events for the day is as follows:
1pm-3pm @ COSI/ITL/VR lab: Board of Trustees and alums come for a ceremony (plaque for donors), tour labs, talk to students, see demos.
3:30pm-5pm @ COSI/ITL/VR lab: LAN games - Alums vs current students at Defcon!
5:30pm-6:30pm: Chinese Buffet (new Mongolian grill).
7pm-10pm @ Adirondack Lodge: Hang out, tell stories, play games, watch a movie
COSI recently received a plethora of new server hardware through a grant from IBM, including ten blade servers, and eight terabytes of RAID storage. Most of the hardware has arrived, and almost everything is ready to be set up. COSI is just waiting on the new sever rack and electrical upgrades to the lab. COSI would like to thank Eli Dow and IBM for the grant.
Over the summer, the Applied Computer Science labs (COSI, ITL, and VRL) were renovated. (Pictures of the labs before the renovations can be found in the workday galleries from last year.) The labs were gutted, completely redone, and then everything was re-organized and put into place. The Rechler Foundation granted the budget for the renovations.
We would also like to thank IBM and the Clarkson Alumni for visiting and sharing their experiences and project ideas.
Many students in COSI recently participated in IBM’s Master the Mainframe Contest. The results are not in yet, but several students finished part II in the top 25, some as early as 6 PM Monday night.
Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2006 and members of this Institute. Good luck to all.
