Applied CS Labs Renovations Summer 2006

Ongoing Projects

Lab Management

  • Ryan Lewis

The Lab Management project maintains its own variation of Fedora Core on the computers in the open source lab we run. They make sure that students are able to use the computers for both schoolwork and fun, and maintain the goal of making open source more available to students here at Clarkson. Students working on this project gain experience in installing and maintaining their own Linux distribution, as well as learn lab management and system management skills.

Web Services

  • Jeremy Bongio
  • Ryan Lewis
  • Jacob Torrey
  • Pat Wilbur

Web Services provides and maintains many of the hosting projects within COSI: the webpage, image gallery, CVS/Projects server, file mirror, and bugtracking capabilities. On this project, students are able to gain system administration and web services experence.

Public Relations

  • Ryan Lewis
  • Pat Wilbur

The Public Relations project is the outreach side of COSI, endeavoring to advertise COSI on campus as well as open source to the North Country. Members of this project are able to gain writing, public speaking, and organizational experience as well as networking skills.

Cluster Computing

The Cluster Computing project implememnts grid, parallel, and cluster computing for COSI. They have provided clusters to several departments here at Clarkson for research purposes. One of IBM’s newest initiatives has been for grid computing, and this project is able to give students valuable experience in that area.
